John Alfred Wheeler senior (1821-1903) ORMONDE WITH FRED ARCHER UP AND THE TRAINER JOHN PORTER signed, dated 1886 and titled ORMONDE, oil on canvas, 72 by 94cm., in gilt picture frame, overall 88 by 108cm. The Duke of Westminster's Ormonde was the last great racehorse Fred Archer rode before he tragically took his own life, aged 29. Ormonde was undefeated and won the Triple Crown of 2,000 Guineas, Derby and St Leger in 1886.
