In 1988 Pat Eddery rode 183 winners, regaining the Champion Jockey title from Steve Cauthen. It was the sixth of his eleven career Champion Jockey titles.
Big race victories included Warning in the Sussex Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Dowsing in the Haydock Sprint Cup, Tessla in the Fillies' Mile and Magic of Life in the Coronation Stakes. Abroad, Pat also won the Prix du Jockey Club on Hours After.
