In the Super Cup first leg match played on 4th December 1978 in Brussels, Anderlecht defeated Liverpool 3-1 and in the 2nd leg match played on 19th December at Anfield , Liverpool defeated Anderlecht 2-1, however, it was not enough and the Belgium side won the match 4-3
