In the two-legged final against West Germany played on 21st September 1982 at Bramall Lane, England defeated West Germany 3-1 and in the match against West Germany played on 12th October 1982 in Bremen, West German defeated England 3-2, however, England winning the match 5-4 on aggregate, first-ever win for England.
