A racing plate worn by Secretariat when winning The Belmont Stakes 7th June 1973, mounted on a silver ashtray by Garrard's of London, hallmarked 1973, inscribed PLATE WORN BY SECRETARIAT, WHEN WINNING THE BELMONT STAKES, 9TH JUNE 1973 Secretariat won the US Triple Crown in 1973, the first horse to do so for 25 years. His culminating victory in the Belmont Stakes was an astonishing performance. The colt won the race by no less than 31 lengths in a world record time of 2 minutes 24 seconds over a mile and a half on dirt, with the record still intact to this day. Provenance: Bought at an auction for the Injured Jockeys Fund organised by Richard Pitman at Stratford-on-Avon Racecourse.
