An official telex from Communications Room at Wembley stadium 1966, the roll of telex with hundreds of timed regular match updates from the stadium press agencies around the world, reporting incidents as they occurred during the game, e.g, ‘In the tenth minute of extra time, yet another fine approach work gave England a chance, yet again the ball ended up with Hurst apparently about to waste the chance. But no, he beat his man turned and shot to beat Tilkowski. The shot hit the bar, bounced down over the line and out again due to spin and a German defender kicked it clear. At first it seemed as though the referee was waving play on, but he was persuaded to consult the linesman and then ruled that the ball had indeed crossed the line and that England were back in the lead 3-2’ the telex concluding with after match comments
