In the controversial final played on 4th July 1954 at The Wankdorf Stadium, West Germany defeated Hungary 3-2. The medal was awarded to Fritz Laband who was a non playing reserve, the medal is believed to have been produced by the West German F.A. and presented to Laband

The 1954 World Cup final played between Hungary and West Germany, known as "the Miracle of Bern", is undoubtedly one of the most notable and historically significant football matches of all time. It was full of drama and, even to this day, the controversy persists with accusations of match-fixing, continued claims of multiple errors by officials.
