A White Glove Sale for the Pat Jennings Collection
The memorabilia collection of legendary Irish goalie Pat Jennings fetched over £400,000 at auction on October 15th at BUDDS. Jennings, one of the greatest goalkeepers in history - famous for scoring a goal, has repeated the trick with a White Glove Sale.
The Pat Jennings football memorabilia collection - 165 items in all - sold with us at BUDDS on October 15th for over £400,000 in front of a hugely enthusiastic audience which snapped up every last item for sale. In auction parlance this is known as a ‘white glove‘ sale.
News of this sale created great excitement among leading football memorabilia collectors, excited by a player who made history on the field of play. For example, while playing for Tottenham Hotspur, Pat Jennings scored a famous goal against Manchester United in the 1967 Charity Shield. From his own penalty area, Jennings kicked the ball, which bounced over the head of Manchester United goalkeeper Alex Stepney and into the net. This was a highly unusual and memorable goal, considered one of the most famous ever scored by a goalkeeper.
Yesterday the Pat Jennings magic was once again evident in our packed saleroom.

Media comment consistently praised Pat Jennings for being "the perfect goalkeeper," citing his calm manner, excellent reflexes, safe hands, tactical understanding, and distribution skills. He is described as “a master of the game” with great common sense, but also a fierce competitor.
Pat played 119 international matches for Northern Ireland in an international career which lasted for over 22 years. During his career, he played for Newry Town, Watford and in the top division with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, winning the FA Cup with both of the north London rivals. In total, Jennings made over 1,000 top level appearances and despite being a goalkeeper, scored from play in the 1967 FA Charity Shield.
