A racing plate worn by Lord Derby's Sansovino when winning the 1924 Derby Stakes, nailed onto a tin backplate and inscribed DERBY STAKES, 1924, LORD DERBY'S SANSOVINO, VALUE OF RACE, £11,755 This plate was removed from Sansovino after The Derby at the Portland House Lodge Stables in Epsom where the colt had been lodged before and after the race. The plate was thereafter mounted on the door of the stable where Sansovino had been. The vertical scuffs that can be seen on the tin backplate are teeth marks made by inquisitive horses that had subsequently occupied Sansovino's stable.
