A racing plate worn by 'Dainty' when finishing runner-up in the 1875 Grand National, mounted on a shield-shaped wooden backboard and set with a copper plaque inscribed DAINTY, SECOND, GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE, LIVERPOOL, 1875; sold together with a group of memorabilia relating to Dainty's owner/trainer Mr S Davis (Sam Darling's brother-in-law) who trained at Woolas Hill, Bredon's Norton, in Worcestershire, and was the first Clerk of the Course at Pershore Racecourse, a post he kept for 30 years, items comprising: accounts for racecourse prize money in 1876 & 1877, many of the racecourses now long gone; Davis's Clerk of the Course stake book for 1920 & 1921; and a Pershore Racecourse dinner menu 15.2.1921 titled a ''Dainty'' menu (4)
