A Scottish international rugby cap 1932-33, awarded to Alastair Robertson McKillop of Kircaldy at some form of intermediate level; the lot includes a photographic postcard of McKillop wearing the cap and a further photograph of him a few years earlier as a part of the Kirkcaldy High School team in 1928-29; the lot also include an unrelated sports cap (2) Mckillop was killed, aged 29, when he was serving as a steward aboard the merchant ship 'S.S. Ambrose Fleming' on 29th. April 1941. On this day, the British collier 'Ambrose Fleming', while in convoy EC-13, was sunk by torpedoes from the German e-boats (schnellboot) S-26 (Fimmen) and S-29 (Mirbach) off the coast of Cromer. Eleven lives were lost and there were eleven survivors.
