Three medals awarded to the athlete W. Mendelson, i) a large silver glass encased medal for Oxford University v Cambridge University athletics match 1895, winner, long jump, 22' 5 1/2''; ii) a large cased bronze medal by Mappin & Webb for United Hospitals Athletics Club v Cambridge University Athletics Club, 1895, winner, long jump, 21' 0'', in original fitted case by D. Munsey of Cambridge; iii) a bronze medal for Jesus College Cambridge v New College Oxford, 1896, winner, 120 yards hurdles Of note is Mendelson's winning jump in the 1895 Varsity Match of 22' 5 1/2in. The following year at the first modern Olympic Games at Athens the long jump winner's mark was 20' 10'' !
