Next to the courts, Rudolph Harper loved sports. As a young cricketer, he took part in primary and secondary school cricket competitions and played in first division cricket at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) from 1949 to 1958; he later served as President of the MSC. He was elected President of the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council (GCUC) and Vice-President of the West Indies Cricket Umpire's Association (WICUA) from 1969 to 1989 and as President from 1989 to 2001. From 1976 to 1988, he served as Vice-President and, from 1988 to 2000, as President, of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA). He was also a member of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and the Commonwealth Sports Committee representing the Americas (1996-2000).
