The London Chronicle Newspaper published 27-29 October 1791 and carrying a report headlined ''Fracas at Newmarket'', this being the notorious scandal relating to the Prince of Wales's horse Escape and the accusation of rigging betting odds after the Regent's runner was well beaten at odds of 1-2 and then the following day won easily at odds of 5-1, eventually resulting in the jockey Sam Chifney being 'warned off'' by the Stewards; sold with a further issue of The London Chronicle 12-15 November 1791, with a column headed ''The Following is Said to be an authentic Statement, relative to a late affair at Newmarket'', a published apology for editorial in the previous publication (2)
