A very early Irish Gaelic Football medal awarded for the 1888 Louth Senior Football Championship, in silver hallmarked Cork, the reverse inscribed 2nd COUNTY LOUTH FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, 1888, WON BY T. McDONELL This medal is from the 2nd Louth Senior Football Championship. Young Irelands (Dundalk), the inaugural winners in 1887, won the competition again in 1888 - beating John Dillons. Dundalk Young Irelands also appeared in the very first All-Ireland Football Final where they were defeated by Commercials of Limerick.
