An album of 94 football team-group postcards, of non-famous local amateur or youth teams of the day and many anonymous line-ups, those identified comprise Northbury Athletic, St John's College, St John's Institute, Amhurst Park, Biscot, London Polytechnic, Glasgow Provincial Training College, Ullswater Rovers, Brooklyn Mills, South Bank (London) & Kensington St Barnabas plus one issue that has a pencil inscription to the reverse ''Winchester v Charterhouse, C B Fry 2nd from left, 2nd row'', season dates are often painted onto the football at the front centre of the composition and mostly date between 1905 and 1922 Postcards from the Hunter Davies Collection Lots 995 to 1001 From his hobby of amassing a collection of football postcards with subjects including football teams, famous and unknown, women's football, comical issues, views of stadiums, in memorium cards, Baines cards et al, Hunter Davies used his collection to tell an illustrated history of football in his acclaimed book POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE OF FOOTBALL, published by Mainstream in 2010. Other items from the Hunter Davies Collection were illustrated in two other of his football titles, BOOTS, BALLS AND HAIRCUTS and the BUMPER BOOK OF FOOTBALL.
