Joe Mercer Aston Villa FC winner's tankard for the inaugural Football League Cup competition in season 1960-61, silver plated, engraved with the crest of the Football League and inscribed THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP, 1960-61, WINNERS, 13cm. The inaugural Football League Cup of 1960-61 concluded with hone & away leg final ties. Having lost 2-0 to Rotherham United in the first leg, Villa needed extra-time to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory in the return hone leg. The crucial goal was scored by the Northern Ireland outside-left Peter McParland. Exhibited: Arsenal FC Museum (on loan).
