English silver trophy for a French polo tournament in Cannes in 1913, in the form of a two-handled cup hallmarked Mappin & Webb, London, 1912, registration design Rd.557717, with chased decoration of a polo match, the reverse inscribed WON BY, COMTE L.R. DE GRAMONT, DUC DE SANTONA, C.D. MILLER, STUART SHIPTON, CANNES 1913, height 16.5cm, weight: 300 gms, bowl misaligned and leaning forward Polo was played at Mandelieu on the Cote d'Azur from 1907 and was a favoured place to play polo during the winter season. Tournaments included Prix d'Ouverture, Cannes-Brioni-Vienna Challenge Cup, Prix de la Riviera, Prix di Circle Nautique and Coupe de Beautes Europeennes.
