Will Carqueville (American 1871-1946), TENNIS PLAYER,illustration for the August 1895 edition of Lippincott’s Magazine, depicting a gentleman tennis player smoking a pipe and holding a racquet, blind stamp lower right LES MISTRESS DE L’AFFICH, framed, 41 by 30cm. Although he studied in Paris for a brief time, Will Carqueville lived in Chicago for most of his life. He founded his own lithographic press there and designed posters for Lippincott's as well as other American literary magazines. His work is classically American, being clean, stylish, simple and direct.
