Horace Rawlins (1874-1935) professional golfer, won the first US Open Championship at Newport Country Club, Rhode Island on 4th October 1895 by two strokes over 36 holes, defeating Willie Dunn. He finished second in the 1896 US Open played at Shinnecock Hills GC on 18th July. He did played on the 1897 US Open Championship, resulting in a tied eight place. Rawlins was involved in golf course design, having worked on The Springhaven Club in Pennsylvania.
