Trophy for the 1937 Bridgetown Handicap Hurdle at Stratford-upon-Avon, in the form of twin-handled silver cup hallmarked Alexander Clarke & Co, Birmingham 1937, 24 by 30cm. across handles,13.8gr. inscribed STRATFORD-UPON-AVON MAY 8th 1937, THE BRIDGETOWN HANDICAP HURDLE RACE 2 MILES, WON BY 'AFRICAN SISTER'. African Sister became the first mare to win the Champion Hurdle two years later in 1939, again ridden by Keith Piggott, Lester's father.Provenance: from the Lester Piggott Collection.
