England cap awarded to Reading FC's Johnny Holt's for his final international appearance in the match v Ireland played at Lansdowne Road, Dublin, 17th March 1900, bearing rose emblem with the peak inscribed 1900, damaged to section above emblem Johnny Holt had won nine England caps when playing for Everton between 1890 and 1895. After a five years absence the England selectors called on the services of the centre-half again when he playing for Reading in the Southern League. He played in the Ireland match in season 1899-1900, a game England won 2-0. Provenance: Consigned from the Bryan Horsnell Collection (lots 587 to 804).
