The match was played at the Olympiastadion in Munich, Germany, on the 25th of June, 1988 and was contested by the Netherlands and the Soviet Union. The match ended 2–0 with goals scored by the Dutch captain Ruud Gullit and star striker Marco Van Basten. This was The Netherlands first UEFA European Championship title.
