In the World Cup qualifying match against Portugal played on 14th November 1973 in Lisbon, the teams drew the match 1-1, in the match against Scotland played on 11th May 1974 at Hampden Park, Northern Ireland defeated Scotland 1-0, in the match against England played on 15th May 1974, England defeated Northern Ireland 1-0 and in the match against Wales played on 18th May in Wrexham, Wales defeated Northern Ireland 1-0
