In the World Cup qualifying match against Iceland played on 21st September 1977 at Windsor Park, Northern Ireland defeated Iceland 2-0, in the World Cup qualifying match Holland played on 12th October 1977 at Windsor Park, Holland defeated Northern Ireland 1-0 and in the World Cup qualifying match against Belgium played on 16th November 1977 at Windsor Park, Northern Ireland defeated Belgium 3-0
