The above cap represents Paul's International debut and his 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th 10th and 11th appearances. Paul made his debut in the 1990 World Cup qualifying match against Albania played on 26th April 1989 at Wembley, England defeating Albania 5-0, in the group match against Holland played on 16th June in Cagliari, the match ended in a 0-0 draw, in the final group match against Egypt played on 21st June in Cagliari, England won the match 1-0, in the round 16 match against Belgium played on 26th June in Bologna, England defeated Belgium 1-0, in the 1990 World Cup quarter-final match against Cameroon, England defeated Cameroon 3-2, in the World Cup semi-final against West Germany, played on 4th July in Turin, England lost the match 4-3 on penalties after the match finished 1-1 and in the 3rd/4th play off match against the host Italy, played on 7th July in Bari, England lost the match 2-1
