John May played as a left half-back and began his football career at Bo'ness, then Wishaw Thistle and Abercorn, before signing for Derby County playing in two F.A.Cup Finals.
He joined Rangers in May 1904 and went on to play 148 times and won five international caps for Scotland between 1906 and 1909
