Ian Botham - England v Pakistan Test Series 1978, three medals comprising one bronze, one white-metal and one yellow-metal presented to Botham playing for England in the 1978 Test series against Pakistan, each medal inscribed Cornhill Insurance Test Series, ENGLAND v. PAKISTAN 1978, the reverse of each inscribed I.T. BOTHAM, in original fitted cases
The bronze medals was awarded for player appearances, white-metal medal to Player of the Match and yellow-metal to Player of the Series
The England v Pakistan three match Test series was won by England 2-0 with one Test drawn due to the weather, Botham had a memorable series making two centuries, 100 in the first Test at Birmingham and 108 at Lord’s (his highest Test score to that date) in the second Test. He also won the match and the series for England in the second Test, as well as scoring a century he then went on to bowl Pakistan out in spectacular fashion in their second innings taking 8-34 (his best ever bowling figures in any first class match) from 20.5 overs bowled.
1978 was the first season that Cornhill Insurance sponsored England home Test matches
