After Harry Hall (1814-1882), VOLTIGEUR, WINNER OF THE DERBY STAKES AT EPSOM, THE DONCASTER GREAT ST LEGER AND THE DONCASTER CUP 1850, aquatint in original hand colour engraved by John Harris, depicting Voltigeur being held by his trainer Robert Hill with jockey Job Marson standing by, in a rural setting, legend in margin, mounted in a black and gilt frame, overall 79 by 90cm., minor discolouration to engraving, slight damage to bottom of frameLord Zetland's Voltigeur was one of the best racehorses to be trained in the north. Foaled in 1847, he won the Derby and dead-heated in the St Leger, but then won the run-off before winning the Doncaster Cup just two days later, beating his only rival The Flying Dutchman. The following year the two horses met again in what was famously termed 'The Great Match', a race Voltigeur lost.
