with a portrait of the jockey and inscribed REFT FROM OUR MIDST BY UNTIMELY FATE, PLEDGE ME HIS SPIRIT BEFORE WE SUP, PLEDGE ME ONE WHO THROUGH LIFE WAS STRAIGHT, STRAIGHT AS HE RODE FOR THE PLATE OR CUP, AH! DEATH'S PALE HORSE MUST HAVE FELT ELATE, AS HE SPED THROUGH THE SHADOWS WITH 'ARCHER UP', an inverted jockey cap forming a spout, the handle moulded with horse tack, incised artist's mark MRC, retailer's mark for John Mortlock, Oxford Street, London, height 18cm., 7in., very good condition.
