John Beer (British, 1860-1930) watercolour of the finish of the 1902 Cesarewitch at Newmarket,
signed, titled, with the first three racehorses identified including the winner Black Sand, watercolour heightened with gouache, in modern mounting & frame under glass, the image 24 by 34cm., overall 41 by 50cm.

Black Sand was owned by Mr James Buchanan (aka Mr T Kincaid), trained by Leandro Alvarez at Newmarket and ridden by Kempton Cannon.

Lots 10 to 34 Memorabilia relating to the Royal Jockey John Watts (1861-1902) and the jockey Kempton Cannon (1879-1951). The connection between the two jockeys being that Watts's widow married Cannon. Provenance: by family descent.
