silver-gilt twin-handled cup & cover, hallmarked Henry Holland, London, 1869, inscribed ANGLESEY HUNT CUP STEEPLE CHASE WON BY MISS HAMPTON'S SAXON NOV..r12..th1869., stylized with two Wyvern Erects as handles, a gallant man on horseback about to slay another Wyvern Erect, the reverse depicts an action scene of two racehorses on a racecourse, the front and back framed in a ball chain effect that is repeated at the rim and the top and bottom of the centre bowl, 31cm. high, 42cm. wide across handles, 1,800gr.
The mythological beast the Wyvern Erect is seen in the Great Seal of the Welsh leader Owain Glyndwr.
