John Beer (British, 1883-1915) watercolour of the Water Jump in the 1910 Lancashire Steeplechase at Manchester,
signed and titled, watercolour heightened with gouache, mounted, framed & glazed, overall 35 by 54cm., good condition
The race ran at Castle Irwell, Manchester, was won by The Duffrey, the horse seen taking off at the jump carrying the blue & red colours of Mr S Hill-Wood. The gelding would win the race again the following year. The winning owner, later Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, became Chairman of Arsenal Football Club.
