Botham had a strong tournament with two ‘Man of the Match’ awards in the games against India and Australia, in the final a late Pakistan assault and he ended with figures of 1/42 off seven overs, opening the batting as he had throughout he was dismissed for a duck off six balls and England were bowled out for 227, 22 runs short of their target, this was Botham’s last World Cup, and he retired from first-class cricket the following year in 1993.
