A pair of horse shoes from the Classic-winning racehorses Persimmon and St. Frusquin,
both tied with giltwood plaques inscribed PERSIMMON and ST. FRUSQUIN, the Persimmon with a label written in the hand of J Watts Esq, [the late jockey's son, and the consignor's grandfather] 151 Maple Road, Surbiton, Surrey, the reverse with manuscript inscription HORSE SHOES FROM MARLBOROUGH HOUSE GIVEN BY QUEEN ALEXANDRA TO HER DRESSER MRS [Harriet] GILTRAP & THEN GIVEN TO J. WATTS 1918

Persimmon and St Frusquin (the 2000 Guineas winner) finished 1st and 2nd in the 1896 Derby.

Lots 10 to 34 Memorabilia relating to the Royal Jockey John Watts (1861-1902) and the jockey Kempton Cannon (1879-1951). The connection between the two jockeys being that Watts's widow married Cannon. Provenance: by family descent.
