Silver salver presented to the royal jockey Joe Childs in 1935,
in the form of a Sheffield silver salver by Mappin & Webb Ltd, 1931, inscribed Presented to JOE CHILDS AS A TOKEN OF ESTEEM from the TRAINERS & JOCKEYS 1935, with twenty-eight engraved signatures of Childs peers, diameter 58cm, approx. 4,900gr.
Joe Childs (1884-1958) was a thoroughly successful jockey, wining fifteen classic races including the Ascot Gold Cup no less than four times, the Epsom Derby, 2000 Guineas and 1000 Guineas three times apiece, St Leger and the Oaks four times apiece, from 1925 to 1935 Childs was first rider to King George V and during WW1 served in a cavalry regiment.
