Trophy for a race at Cheltenham won by a horse owned by the uncrowned King Edward VIII,
in the form of small silver loving cup, hallmarked Hamilton & Co., Sheffield, 1926, inscribed CHELTENHAM, 11.3.36, NATIONAL HUNT JUVENILE STEEPLECHASE, WON BY HIS MAJESTY'S MARCONI (D. MORGAN), TRAINED BY MAJOR F.W. BARRETT, height 7.5cm.
King Edward VIII's reign began on 20th January 1936 and until his abdication 11th December 1936, before his Coronation. The King's jockey in this race was the Irish rider from Co. Waterford Danny Morgan who after becoming too heavy for the flat switched to jumps racing. In 1938 he won the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Morse Code in the only occasion Golden Miller was beaten at the Cheltenham Festival. He also won two Champion Hurdles either side of the Second World War.
